North Dakota Goes to War, The 1st North Dakota Volunteers in the Philippines
A documentary was created as part of the Fall 2018 Digital History Class. I designed and produced the film with technical aid from filmmaker/musician Stephen Beckermann. The students conducted research and worked to create the narrative and gather images to help tell the story. The documentary film is not the big sweeping story of presidents and generals and famous names. It is the story of ordinary people—the men of the 1st North Dakota Infantry Volunteers—who fought in the Philippines from 1898-1899 during the Spanish-American War. Premiered at the Fargo Theater on December 10, 2018.
The film was reviewed by Spanish-American War scholar and author, Joseph McCallus in 2022. https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/306712720
